Soundtracks craft some of the most memorable experiences from our favorite games. The scores to classics like The Legend of Zelda and Tetris are iconic and 20+ years after the first time someone has heard it, they’re just as recognizable. Video game music sets a tone and keeps the player in the intended atmosphere through the duration of the narrative. That’s a pretty powerful role to have. Given that staying power and importance, the phenomenon of tribute albums aren’t a surprise.
A lot of them are even welcome, which is a fair thing to say about Materia: Final Fantasy VII Remixed from Materia Collective. Bringing together over 200 musicians, the five disc album will pay homage to Nobuo Uematsu's lauded score for Final Fantasy VII.
Materia’s project is expansive and impressive and it’s now available on iTunes for $19.99.
