Matt Damon tries to survive on Mars in the first trailer for The Martian

The best-selling science fiction novel written by Andy Weir has received its first trailer. The Martian follows Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) on his mission to survive on Mars after a storm leaves him stranded and alone, while his crew successfully escapes off of the planet.

Watney does whatever it takes to send a message to NASA, who presumed he was dead. Once the message is sent and received, the crew returns to save him – regardless of the mission being rejected by NASA.

The trailer shows off a lot of the film, leaving little to the imagination… besides whether or not he survives in the end.

The film's cast is filled with heavyweights, on top of Matt Damon there's Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Peña, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Donald Glover.

The Martian will hit theaters this November.
