A few days ago, we reported that Dawn of the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves would be joining the production of 'The Batman' to replace Ben Affleck as director. DC and Reeves had yet to officially seal the deal, but rumors indicated that things were close to wrapping up. Turns out, somehow everything got messed up and Reeves is out.
No specific details have been given but The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that negotiations broke down and Reeves walked away. At the moment, the film is left without a director once again but Warner Bros. and DC are determined to continue the film.
It's possible that Warner Bros. will reapproach directors Riddley Scott and Fede Alvarez who were previously in the running for the position. Both directors are veterans of the horror genre so it sounds as if The Batman is being approached similarly to a horror movie to capture those scary aspects of the character we've seen in the comics.
The production of the film has been VERY rough. For starters, the DC universe has been getting slammed critically for the last year and that has made everyone very pessimistic of all future movies. Batman himself Ben Affleck was also set to direct, write, and produce the film, and after stating several times that he would indeed direct it… he dropped out. Now it seems that he doesn't want to be a part of the universe at all and wants to stop playing Batman entirely.
