Max & the Magic Marker Now Available on iOS

Max & the Magic Marker, the drawing-themed puzzle platformer from Press Play, is now available for the iPhone and iPad. EA Mobile took hold of the game, which was first released on the Wii and PC. The new version retains the look, sound, and style of the original release but allows players to draw lines on the screen using their fingers.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of Max & the Magic Marker on the Wii. Though I liked the concept and style of the game, it didn’t function as well as it should have. The finicky controls, pesky physics, and annoying glitches detracted from the overall experience the game should have offered. I wouldn’t necessary call Max & The Magic Marker a bad game, especially since I had some fun playing it, but it was difficult to recommend to anyone other than the most patient gamers.

Still, it’s great to see a fun little indie title in portable form. I’m not sure if the new touch screen controls will do anything to enhance the gameplay (especially if none of the other issues are addressed), but at least more people will be exposed to developer Press Play. Also, the touch controls seem better suited to the iPad, considering it’s a lot larger than the iPhone.

If you’re an iPhone or iPad owner looking for some quick fun, you can pick up Max & the Magic Marker on the App Store. iPhone owners can download the game for $1.99, and the iPad version can be purchased for $4.99. The game is available now.
