McDonald’s jumps into VR headset race with ‘Happy Goggles’

McDonald's is looking to take their Happy Meal boxes and turn them into virtual reality goggles. Sure, you could invest in the $800 HTC Vive headset or the $600 Oculus Rift for the real deal, but those headsets don't even come with a serving of chicken nuggets or sodium.

Of course, McDonald's 'Happy Goggles' don't work by themselves or off of pure imagination, anyone who wants the VR goggles will need to fold the Happy Mean box up and shove their smartphone in it.

In addition to the goggles, McDonald's will be releasing a mobile game called 'Beware the Hill' aimed at teaching kids how important it is to be vigilant on the ski slopes. The game will be released alongside the goggles.

Starting Saturday, March 5, seven McDonald's establishments will test out the 'Happy Goggles' between the hours of 11AM and 3PM in Sweden.

Hey, it's better than that terrifying Happy Meal box…
