This past May, Sarah Marie Alida Parries of Vancouver, British Columbia, lost her battle to inoperable brain cancer. Sarah was a gamer, but was not you’re average player. You see, Sarah was five years old and her favorite game was MechWarrior Online. With the help of her father Jon Parries, Sarah would pilot her favorite mech, the Jenner, and wreck havoc on those much older than her. After learning of her tragic passing, MechWarrior Online developer Piranha Games set out to remember one of their most enthusiastic fans.
What resulted was the creation of Sarah’s own Jenner mech, dubbed “Sarah’s Jenner.” For the past several weeks players from all around the world have been able to purchase this in-game mech for $10 with 100% of the proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society.
In May 2013, we were overwhelmed with support for Sarah Parries, one of our youngest MechWarriors who tragically lost her life to cancer in Vancouver, Canada. We would like to reiterate our deepest condolences for Sarah's loved ones, who have expressed their sincerest appreciation for the incredible outpour of sympathy from the MechWarrior Online Community.
We are delighted to have been petitioned by our fans to take this as an opportunity to honor our fallen comrade and to raise donations for the Canadian Cancer Society through the sale of a unique version of Sarah's favourite Mech.
Purchase this special Mech for $10 USD and we will donate the proceeds raised to cancer research in memory of Sarah and MechWarriors affected by cancer worldwide. Full details can be found here.
The promotion, which runs until August 20, reached an astonishing milestone today, as Piranha Games announced that proceeds hit over $100,000. Again, the mech – which can be purchased here – will be available until the 20. The mech itself is treated as a regular Jenner besides racking in a 10% XP boost per-match for owners. Below you can check out more about the Jenner, and a lovely quote from Sarah’s father.
