Media Molecule’s elusive Dreams launching this Spring in Early Access

One of the most elusive PlayStation 4 exclusives has finally a release window as developer Media Molecule announced that this Spring Dreams is launching. The artistic creation-sandbox isn’t set to release in its final form however, and will be an Early Access title. A first for the PlayStation! Dreams will cost just $29.99. Studio Director Siobhan Reddy shared the exciting news on the PlayStation Blog where she further explained what players can expect once Dreams comes out.

Dreams is the highly-ambitious and unique true sandbox game Media Molecule has been working on for over 6 years now. Indeed, audiences caught the first glimpse at it way back at PlayStation Meeting 2013, during the unveiling event for the PlayStation 4. This makes Dreams the oldest unreleased PlayStation 4 game to date. But this is going to change very soon.

After many years – and just in-time to not miss out on the entire console generation –  gamers finally will be able to get their hands on Dreams this Spring. That’s not entirely true, as Dreams just recently concluded a closed beta, so one could say the signs were already there. You can check out a nice collage of user creations during the beta here.

So, what do you do in Dreams then? Truth is, everything you can imagine. It sounds trite but it’s absolutely the truth. Fans have created shockingly creative projects. From first-person shooters to Souls-like action games. Even a faithful recreation of Konami’s ill-fated P.T. demo has been made. After all, it’s very difficult to classify Dreams. It takes Media Molecule’s penchant for user-friendly sandboxes from Little Big Planet and maxes it to eleven. Coupled with the intuitive PlayStation Move motion controls and PlayStation Virtual Reality, the sky – and your time – is the limit.

As an Early Access title, not all features will be present but that’s pretty much the norm for the system. You can sign up directly at PlayStation for future updates about Dreams Ealy Access.

Does this mean Sony will start accepting other Early Access games on their platform remains to be seen. But seeing the success for both gamers and developers on the PC and Xbox One, we sure are hoping.
