During Sony's E3 press conference pre-show last night, Sony announced that Media Player for the PlayStation 4 was available for download. It's probably the most underrated announcement that came out of Sony yesterday, and it was one of the most highly requested features for the PS4.
The Media Player can connect to your home server, or you can plug in a USB stick to watch movie files and listen to music. The home server appears as a media option in the player automatically. The video and audio file formats and codecs supported are:
