With XCOM 2’s newly delayed release still looming in the distance, developers Firaxis Games and Feral Interactive today detailed the game’s main characters via its official site.
XCOM 2 once again casts the player as the Commander, but pairs them with a colorful new trio. Indeed, the Avenger, the game’s central base of operations, is home to three partners in warfare.
Dr. An-Yi “Lily” Shen (pictured above, left) is the Avenger’s resident grease monkey. The daughter of a famed engineer, Lily spent time in California after emigrating from Taiwan. Sometime after the alien attacks began, her father passed away. Shortly after, she joined XCOM to finish her father’s work and eradicate the alien invaders.
Richard Tygan (middle), the other doctor in the house, is an ex-ADVENT biochemist who turned to XCOM to right the wrongs unknowingly wrought by his previous research. His work on Gene Therapy suggests Tygan will be able to augment yours soldiers’ DNA, much like the Genetics Lab introduced in XCOM: Enemy Within.
Your third Avenger bunkmate will be Central Officer Bradford (right), a veteran of XCOM’s initial struggle seeking “new hope that we can reclaim our planet.” His is a history of the futility of war and the underhanded tactics of ADVENT, which he hopes to leave behind.
Naturally, Lily, Tygan and Bradford will be joined by dozens of side characters in XCOM 2, the most pertinent being your own carefully trained soldiers. The game is said to double down on character customization, which will include assigning names, thus deepening the connection with your personal forces.
