It was announced today that Mega Man will be getting a new animated series in 2017. The animation will be handled by Dentsu Entertainment and Man of Action (the company behind Ben 10 and Big Hero 6 fame) as the company supervising the writing and story development.
An image of the new Mega Man as well as a brief synopsis of the series was also released and Mega Man fans will instantly notice that there are a few changes, noticeably the design and Mega Man's new name.
The new animated Mega Man series will follow Aki Light – a normal, upbeat, and above all optimistic young school-aged robot living in Silicon City. He soon learns that deep within his programming are secret protocols that allow him to transform – giving him nanocore armor, a Mega Buster, and the iconic helmet to turn him into a superhero – Mega Man!
With the show targeted at kids and parents who were fans of the Blue Bomber growing up, how will the new show be received? We will have to wait to find out, but at least it's not quite as bad as the show from the 90's.
