Mel Gibson top choice for director of Suicide Squad sequel

When it comes to directors of super hero movies, Mel Gibson isn't the first name that comes to mind. That may all change, however, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

THR is indicating that Mel Gibson is Warner Bros and DC's top choice for director of the upcoming Suicide Squad sequel. No official offer has been made yet, but they are in early stages of talks for Gibson to join the DCEU. David Ayer, the actor for the original, is not available since he is working on Gotham City Sirens.

Gibson's latest directorial film, Hacksaw Ridge starring Andrew Garfield, has made nearly $200 million worldwide and earned six Oscar nominations including one for himself as Best Director. It will be curious to see how the sequel plays out as the original was graded extremely low by both fans and critics. It's in the early stages and Warner Bros is looking at other directors as well, but Gibson appears to be the front runner.

We'll have more as it develops.
