Mercenary Kings closed beta begins May 15

If you were one of the nearly 4,000 backers who contributed to Tribute Games' Kickstarter Mercenary Kings, the Metal Slug-esque game with Scott Pilgrim art, then mark your calendar for Wednesday, May 15.

Mid-month is when the closed beta begins for backers who gave at least $80 to the crowdfunding project, according to an update today. It will be playable on Steam and resemble the demo that was available at Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) "in terms of scope" — only more polished and with a limited number of missions.

Tribute also confirmed that online multiplayer will work in closed beta. "Hopefully, this will help us already start stress testing our online component," it wrote.

The developer will post more details on the day of the beta's launch.

The Kickstarter amassed $116,064 in funds back in September, beating its $75,000 target goal. Mercenary Kings will debut on PC, with Mac and Ouya versions to follow — along with releases for Sony and Nintendo consoles.
