MercuryStream teases a new game, maybe, possibly, could be Contra

A while back MercuryStream, the guys who brought us Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Scrapland, mentioned wanting to move on from the Castelvania series. At the time, they were specifically mentioning an interest in a revival of Konami’s Contra series, "I love Contra. I'd love to do Contra. At MercurySteam we've got an original idea that I think is really awesome. We'd love to bring that idea to market and I'm hoping that the success of Lords of Shadow 2 will allow us to do that," said Dave Cox, head of development over at Konami EU. That’s all well and good, but it was also said nearly three years ago.

Flash forward to today and the MercuryStream website has updated itself with an animated image on the main page of a cigar smoking man in a futuristic cockpit with promise to explore new worlds, fight strange creatures and discover new heroes with news to soon follow. Given MercuryStream is based out of Europe and gamescom is fast approaching, here’s hoping we’ll get some more concrete facts. That said, while we hope we’re looking at a new Contra, anything new out of this group is bound to be interesting.
