After years of waiting and hoping, Konami has finally allowed us to revisit some of the best stealth games ever made. After seemingly abandoning the Metal Gear Solid franchise is any meaningful way, Konami has given Microsoft the green light to release Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 via Xbox’s backward compatibility feature.
Starting today, you can go back and play both games on Xbox One. You can either purchase the game from the store for $19.99 or put in the disc for the HD collection on Xbox 360 to download it to your Xbox One. It should be noted that Peace Walker is NOT available right now, there’s no word on if that’ll change or not at the moment or what the hold-up is regarding that.
Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 join Konami’s other HD collection of Silent Hill 2 and 3 on Xbox One. This is pure speculation and wishful thinking but we’d like to hope this is to gauge interest in both franchises and see if they want to revive them in any meaningful way whether through new remasters or full-blown sequels/reboots. Regardless, both Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 are classics and worth playing if you haven’t gotten a chance to play them.
Franchise creator Hideo Kojima has indeed moved on from the acclaimed series after a falling out with Konami but his next game, Death Stranding, looks to be something wildly fresh and interesting.
We’ll continue to keep you posted if Peace Walker joins the collection at any point in time.
