Metal Gear Solid 5 reportedly cost over $80 million to develop

With Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain releasing next month, it's only a matter of time that we found out the amount of money that went into its development. And that's exactly what a recent report from Nikkei, a Japanese publication, revealed when translated by Thomas James. It states that Kojimas last game cost Konami over 80 million dollars.

This comes with no surprise though, Kojima was going out with a bang and it was obvious. Kojima had a ton of talented voice actors as part of the staff, like Troy Baker and Kiefer Sutherland reprising major roles while the development team created what seems to be one of the most expansive and gorgeous open worlds to date. This probably includes development on Kojima's new engine, “The Fox Engine”, which MGSV:TPP runs on. Hideo Kojima wanted the “Fox Engine” to become one of the best tools to help develop a game and he might’ve created it. You can watch the E3 2015 stage demo and see how stunning the game looks.

Could the price of MGSV be the reason for the falling out between Kojima and Konami? It has been clearly stated that Konami is switching from console gaming and is rather prioritizing on mobile games since they’re seeing more cashflow from games like Dragon Collection. The article also goes on to include information on the strict, poisonous company culture at Konami. It's super sad to see the bond between Kojima and Konami split apart, especially with it being Kojimas last Metal Gear game.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is set to release on September 1st for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC following in the next couple of weeks.
