Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain to feature in-game microtransactions

According to the PlayStation Store, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will feature in-game microtransactions. The nature of the transactions have yet to be revealed by Konami, but rumors on what the microtransactions are have been surfacing.

In the past, the Mother Base in Metal Gear games has been used to research item upgrades and new gear. The process of researching items takes time, time that may have the option to be skipped.

Individuals that have had hands-on time with The Phantom Pain have run into a specific prompt when attempting to speed up research and development in the Mother Base: "Reduced time features cannot be used in offline mode." This prompt suggests that the microtransactions could be tied to speeding up research time in the Mother Base. This process would be similar in nature to the Clash of Clans speed up process, where you purchase a green gem to skip the building process of building/weapons.

There's always the chance that the microtransactions will be applied to the game's multiplayer or future DLC purchases.
