Metal Gear Solid fans create VR experience, starring David Hayter

Last month, the Shadow Moses Project, which aimed to recreate Metal Gear Solid on the Unreal Engine 4, was sadly cancelled. Not much reason was given on why the project was closed so abruptly, even though we have a slight inclination, the team managed to recover they're losses and make a whole new game

.

The Fan Legacy: Metal Gear Solid was formerly announced yesterday. It is a first-person experience allowing fans the opportunity to revisit some of the most emblematic MGS levels in the form of a virtual museum. There will be no need for stealth this time around. The VR experience will be available to download on PC this May for free.

Here's what the teams Facebook page had to say:

Born from the ‘Shadow Moses’ project, The Fan Legacy: Metal Gear Solid is a first-person experience allowing fans the opportunity to revisit some of the most emblematic MGS levels in the form of a virtual museum. There will be no need for stealth this time around.

The Fan Legacy: Metal Gear Solid will feature many pieces of amazing fan art from devoted lovers of the series and our collaborators. As an unofficial, non-profit production, the project is a gift, from the fans, but also addressed to the fans; to share our affection for the seminal franchise.

We are delighted to announce that the project, available for PC, will feature VR support.

We can also reveal that non-other than the legendary David Hayter will be involved in the project, which we are overjoyed by! The project will be released for free download in May, and we truly hope that you will enjoy the experience.

Special thanks to Sheraz Ali for the amazing artwork!

Thank you all for your support,

The Fan Legacy team.

As you can see from the video above, players will now have the ability to explore Shadow Moses completely in VR. In addition, the team also got the iconic voice of Solid Snake, David Hayter, back to do some voice overs. Perhaps this is what Hayter accidentally tweeted out a couple of weeks ago.

Hayter, known best for his iconic voice of both Solid Snake and Big Boss, recently had the chance to sit down with Game Informer and shed some light on why he stopped being the iconic voice. Ever since Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater they were looking for someone to replace him Hayter said:

“I had to re-audition for Metal Gear 3 to play Naked Snake, they made me re-audition to play Old Snake, and the whole time, they were trying to find somebody else to do it."

"It was annoying to me because I thought that I had given a lot to the series and really helped promote it. I don’t have any ill will toward Kiefer Sutherland or anything like that. The whole thing could have been handled better and a little more respectfully, but I’m not going to cry about it."

Hayter will also never play Ground Zeroes or The Phantom Pain as it would feel like "60 hours of humiliation."

David Hayter also extinguished any hopes fans had of him and Kojima working together again now that Kojima is a free man "I’ve got no particular love for Kojima.  I don’t feel any need to go back and work with him again."

It is nice to see Hayter return to the voice despite his view on Kojijma. No word on whether or not if Konami will let this 'new VR experience' slide and allow it be published, however since it's going to be a nonprofit and unofficial entry in the Metal Gear series, the odds look good.
