Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes will act as the prologue to the much anticipated Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and will come out on both last-gen and current-gen platforms, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Of course, Hideo Kojima wants fans to know just how much better the game will look on new systems versus the old ones, and does a pretty good job at it.
There are a few things to note about the trailer however. The comparisons done here are between the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, and then the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. Kojima tries very hard to not compare the two more powerful versions of the game. The way it's cut, you're meant to compare last-gen to current-gen of Microsoft and Sony individually and not against one another.
However, as we get near the end of that trailer, Kojima showcases a running animation on all four consoles, which pretty much allows us to directly compare the graphics between the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. While the game certainly does look a bit sharper and higher resolution on the PlayStation 4, oddly enough, the clouds in the sky are missing. Check out the two following gifs.
Xbox One version:
PlayStation 4 version:
Clouds on the Xbox One. No clouds on the PlayStation 4. Is this the fabled power of the Cloud? All jokes aside, it does seem that MGS:GZ is benefitting from having a 1080p resolution on the PS4 versus 720p on the Xbox One. Even in these compressed gifs, that were both created using the same quality settings, you can tell the amount of detail is higher on the PlayStation 4 version, minus the clouds of course.
Gifs aside, if you truly want to see the difference between the four versions, I highly advise downloading the 10mbps version of the video HERE. The above trailer, thanks to the compression. doesn't really showcase how much more detailed each version is over its last-gen version. You can do so by right-clicking and choosing Save Link As.
