Metal Gear Survive demo used reworked Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain map

Konami gave us our first official look at gameplay for the upcoming zombie spin-off of the Metal Gear series, Metal Gear Survive, over the weekend. At first glance, the game looked like it was using content from The Phantom Pain, but that content use might go even deeper than we thought.

YouTuber rensehin made a side-by-side comparison of the Afghanistan map from Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain and the Metal Gear Survive Tokyo Game Show demo. This comparison revealed that Konami has, in fact, reused the Afghanistan map for their new game.

The main difference between the map is some simple modifications.

Reusing maps from The Phantom Pain might make sense, considering that Konami says wormholes are to blame for the spin-off. The wormhole didn't send us anywhere new, it just sent us to Afghanistan again – except this time in an alternate reality.

Even the creator of the Metal Gear series, Hideo Kojima, has been criticising Konami for going the zombie route.
