Metro Exodus goes gold and moves release date up by one week

After lying dormant for five years, the post-apocalyptic Russian survival series, Metro, is making a return in early 2019. The third entry in the acclaimed series, Metro Exodus, will see players traveling across a larger world while staying true to its somewhat linear roots to keep the core Metro experience.

Yesterday, Metro Exodus went gold meaning the game is “finished”. The main game is complete so they have the story, mechanics, and all that put together and will begin printing it onto discs soon but they’ll spend the next two months polishing it to get rid of bugs and glitches that’ll likely be ironed out in a day one patch.

Given it has gone gold so soon, this has allowed publisher Deep Silver to push the game up one whole week.

“Our fans have been waiting patiently for Metro Exodus ever since we announced the title at E3 2017,” said Deep Silver CEO Klemens Kundratitz, in the announcement. “We had previously delayed the release date to ensure 4A Games had the time to deliver their ambitious vision for the game, but now we’re delighted to confirm that Metro Exodus has ‘gone gold’ and we are able to bring the release date forward to the 15th February 2019.”

You can view the game’s opening title sequence below which was created by the makers of the iconic intros of Game of Thrones and Westworld.

Metro Exodus will hit Xbox One, PS4, and PC on February 15th, 2019.
