Nintendo is gearing up for the August release of Metroid Prime: Federation Force, yet many Metroid fans have made clear that it's a game they don't want. Maybe today's addition to the Wii U Virtual Console will go a long way to calming the collective grumpiness.
First-person shooter Metroid Prime Hunters is the latest in a growing library of DS games playable on Wii U, following last month's release of The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. The game originally released for the Nintendo DS in 2006, making this Virtual Console release an acknowledgement of the game's 10-year anniversary.
Like Mario Kart DS, Metroid Prime Hunters is known mostly for its multiplayer and will have a similar challenge of losing its main draw in this form, due to the way Nintendo emulates DS games. Priced at the standard $9.99, you're primarily paying for the single-player campaign, but you can still access the multiplayer mode with limited functionality (i.e., using CPUs for opponents, rather than local or online players).
