The recently released Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and the upcoming Wii U version, will be the first to offer DLC characters, and Mewtwo looks to be the first offering. It's actually not clear whether Nintendo will continually support the game actively with new characters, but apparently the architecture is there. During last night's Smash themed Nintendo Direct, among the (over) 50 things we learned about the game, one of them was that a returning fighter who made his debut in Super Smash Bros. Melee, Mewtwo, would be joining the fray.
Mewtwo will be available free of charge for those that own both versions of the game, much like the special soundtrack offer. Nintendo didn't say how much Mewtwo would cost for those that didn't own both versions, however, they did mention that Mewtwo won't be available until Spring of 2015.
