Michael Bay set to produce live action Dora the Explorer movie

Dora... now with explosions!

Hollywood has a fascination with turning cartoons into live action properties. Look at Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and many others, why do they do this? Nostalgia, it's already got an established audience, etc.

Most of them do make sense, who doesn't wanna see Optimus Prime kick Megatron's ass for two and a half hours with Linkin Park music blaring throughout? Given the box office results, it seems like China is really into it! With that said, the legendary Michael Bay who directed the last five Transformer films, The Rock, the last two Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and many other action movies will be turning his attention to an unlikely property… Dora the Explorer.

Yes, Dora the Explorer as in the children's show on Nick Jr. starring a Hispanic girl with her talking backpack and map and monkey friend that teaches kids the basics of Spanish, how to count, and morals like not stealing or being mean.

The pyro-obsessed director will be producing the film helmed Nick Stoller, director of the raunchy R-rated comedy Neighbors and he's written more family-friendly films like Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie and The Muppets.

Most details regarding the project are a secret but it's set to take the seven-year-old girl and age her up to a teenager, she will move into the city with her cousin Diego who had his own spin-off TV show. Will Michael Bay insist that they blow a bunch of stuff up while the star spangled banner waves triumphantly in the background? Will he push for a sexy Dora? Who knows but Michael Bay is known for his… interesting choices. The film is aiming for a 2019 release date meaning it could begin filming sometime in 2018.
