Michael Fassbender, Ariane Labed are looking good in new Assassin’s Creed movie photo

Save for one official image and a few behind-the-scenes shots, we haven't really see or heard much about New Regency and 20th Century Fox's Assassin's Creed movie. That changed this week when Entertainment Weekly released a new write-up on the film, revealing an image of Fassbender and actress Ariane Labed in full costume seemingly on set.

We don't know who Labed will play in the film, but we do know Fassbender is playing Callum Lynch, a character created specifically for the film which plays off the same time-traveling concept of the action-adventure game series.

"Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain.  Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day."

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Fassbender revealed that he never actually played any of the Assassin's Creed games prior to his work on the film. Thankfully that changed soon after he was offered the part.

"I’ve played it since [being offered the job] mainly to get an idea of the physicality of the character,” Fassbender said. "We’re striving to find something special. We believe the whole concept around it is special and want to service that the best we can. The fans are really passionate: very specific and they expect accuracy and historical detail. We’re really trying to capitalize and feed on and enjoy the fun element. We’re working hard to make this something special.”

And for fans hoping to see the Assassin's Creed games' most epic moments played out on the big screen, Fassbender assured there's plenty of parkour in the game, as well as the signature wrist blades.

"It's about getting inc lose to the target, close quarters fighting," he said, also revealing that he's doing a lot of his own stunts. "I've learned how to roly poly, tumble turn. Stuff you can do in everyday life. Like cartwheels." He also said he's done "basic fight choreography," as well as "some horse stuff."

Assassin's Creed is set to hit theaters on December 21, 2016. The good news is it sounds pretty true to the game series, which is always a worry I have when I hear a game is being turned into a movie.
