According to a report from Variety, Marvel and Sony are speaking with Michael Keaton to cast him as the villain in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot, Spider-Man: Homecoming. There's no word on who he will be playing, but there have been some rumors floating around about Vulture being the primary villain in the film.
For those unfamiliar with Vulture, he is a psychotic old man who gets a high-tech suit with wings that allows him to fly. Michael Keaton fits the look of the crazy old man (no offense to Michael Keaton) as seen in the comics and cartoons, so this is absolutely perfect casting. Not to mention all the flying animals he has played in the past (Birdman).
This isn't the first time Sony has attempted to put the delusional old man on screen. Back when Sam Rami was directing the Spider-Man films, he had the idea of doing Vulture for Spider-Man 4 and casting Ben Kingsley to play the character. Sadly, the ideas for this script were canned after the critical reception of Spider-Man 3.
What do you think of the casting if it's real? Would you have prefered another actor to play Vulture or maybe an entirely different villain instead of Vulture? Let us know in the comments.
Spider-Man: Homecoming releases July 7th, 2017 and will star Tom Holland in the leading role alongside Marisa Tomei as Aunt May. The wall-crawler will have his on-screen debut in the MCU next month when Captain America: Civil War releases on May 6th, 2016.
