Microsoft allegedly pursuing development on new Fable game

So the rumors were true...?

A rumor suggesting the return of the Fable series surfaced earlier this month and it looks like it might actually be happening. The rumor was founded on an item that appeared an update in Microsoft’s Xbox Live API SDK, this item was detailed to be a new Fable from a developer named Playground.

According to Eurogamer, the rumor is true. A new Fable is indeed in development and it is being developed by Playground. Sources close to the project revealed that the new fable is planned as a character-focused open-world action RPG.

Unfortunately, the game is still early in development, which means we won’t be seeing it soon. It is being reported that around 200 developers will be assigned to the project at Playgrounds new second office in Warwickshire.

Less than two years ago, Microsoft shut down the original developers of Fable, Lionhead Studios. At the time, the announcement of the closure came as a surprise to the developers, who in the end took the closure with as much grace as possible for a situation like that.

Microsoft continued to comment on the Fable series after the studio’s closure, thanks to inquisitive fans. In May 2017, Xbox Head Phil Spencer stated that the series has “a lot of places” is could go, but they had no announcements to make. In October 2017, Xbox’s head of publishing claimed that she couldn’t “talk” on whether Microsoft was returning to the series.

Perhaps all the questions on whether we could return to the series spurred this development.
