Hot on the heels of a Microsoft executive suggesting that this generation could be the last traditional console generation that we see, Xbox head Phil Spencer has hinted at what the future holds. According to Microsoft's Head of Xbox Games Marketing, Aaron Greenberg, "the future is without console generations"
This isn't the first time we've heard something like this, back in March Phil Spencer went on record saying that Microsoft has been looking at the PC ecosystem and taking notes. While Microsoft may be looking to blur the lines between generation jumps in console gaming, nothing has been confirmed to say that console generations are done with.
In response to a fan inquiring if Project Scorpio, the currently in development console from Microsoft, would be the last console generation for Microsoft, Spencer revealed that Microsoft already had post-Scorpio ideas.
@umairshazi Already have ideas for what could be after Scorpio. Great thing in gaming, early tech adopters and best creators of any industry

There's a chance that the future of gaming is all-digital.
