Microsoft considering bringing older games back to PC

Microsoft’s Xbox head Phil Spencer recently revealed why games like Scalebound, Crackdown 3 and Quantum Break wouldn’t be making their way to PC/Windows 10 like some of their other Xbox games. Ultimately, those games were too far in development to add development for another console.

While those new games won't be making their way onto the PC now, there's a chance older games might. Spencer went on to say that Microsoft has been looking back at their catalogue of games, specifically games that had been on PC previously, and are considering bringing them back on PC — if they work well that is.

"I look at the franchises that we have on console and I think there are some franchises that can work really well on PC," said Spencer. "I also think about some of the things in our past, as Microsoft, that we used to have on PC, and say, ‘Boy, wouldn’t it be great if we brought some of these games back purely on PC.’"

Does this mean we could be seeing Halo make its return to PC? It's entirely possible. Looking at the PC game that is exclusive to Russia, you'd think that Halo Online was created to test the water for a new PC Halo game — the game is built off of Halo 3.

Again, Microsoft isn't considering every old title or even every new title for PC. They are specifically looking for the right games, games that work on PC, that will build up their user base and their portfolio.

"So I’m stating it again, I’m kind of less in the broad sweep of, ‘Everything should be over here and over there,’ because I think in certain instances that might not be the right model, but I definitely want to build out our Windows games portfolio, and we’re making slow progress on that. But slow in a way that I think is good, because we’re being deliberate about the games that we’re deciding and make sure we have a real plan."

My hopes are on Halo coming back.
