Microsoft COO: women make up ’40 percent’ of Xbox LIVE’s ‘audience’

Microsoft has confirmed Thursday that 40 percent of the Xbox LIVE audience are women, this according to chief operating officer Kevin Turner. The statistic was announced during the company’s annual financial-analysts meeting.

Turner also said during the meeting that 42 percent of the online Xbox LIVE community watches 30 hours of movie and TV content each month across a number of digital platforms offered through LIVE, i.e. Netflix and Hulu Plus.

A 2011 Nielsen study showed that 12 percent of Netflix users watched their content on an Xbox 360, while 2 percent got their Hulu content through the console. These numbers have certainly risen since this study, but it just goes to show you how many LIVE users are investing in media usage outside of video games.
