Microsoft drops Facebook and Twitter apps from Xbox 360

Microsoft has removed two big social media apps from the Xbox 360 console.

The company's new dashboard update (which started going out this week) clears out Facebook and Twitter in favor of Internet Explorer, which Microsoft hopes gamers will use instead.

If you're already downloaded and installed the apps, you can still use either one — but those who haven't are now cut off from accessing them.

This update is part of a "pre-launch" phase, with global integration expected on October 23.
