Master Chief is making his way to Steam, which seems just as daunting has him assaulting a Covenant base. On April 4th, Halo: Spartan Assault will be available for purchase on Steam.
Halo: Spartan Assault originally launched in July 2013 on Windows 8 PC, Surface tablets and Windows 8 phone for $6.99, and later released on Xbox One and Xbox 360. Over the course of 30 missions, Spartan Assault explores the first of the Spartan Ops program and dives deeper into the backstory of the Human-Covenant wars. You play as two characters: Commander Sarah Palmer and Spartan Davis.
It's a pretty good addition for Steam users, even though our Editor Jake Valentine scored the game a 5.0/10. But what of other games in the franchise? When can we expect more Halo games on Steam? Not any time soon, apparently.
A Microsoft spokesperson told GameSpot "We have no further 'Halo' releases on Steam planned at this time." The PC gamer in me would like Halo games to come to Steam, but why would Microsoft do this when they want to sell Xbox One console and Windows 8 devices? Why give potential Steam Machine buyers another reason to choose that over an Xbox One? But maybe if Spartan Assault sells well on Steam they'll bring more games to Steam. Who knows what Microsoft is thinking.
That said, whenever I hear a PR spokesperson say "At this time," it usually means they're already planning it. #justmy2cents
