Microsoft has officially discontinued production on the launch Xbox One

The launch Xbox One is officially a thing of the past as Microsoft revealed to Glixel that they have already discontinued production on the console. In fact, the company hasn't made any in over a year following the release of the Xbox One S back in August 2016.

A spokesperson said:

"As is typical for the console industry, we stopped manufacturing the original Xbox One when we introduced Xbox One S."

Original Xbox Ones have been gradually harder and harder to find over the last year, and Microsoft has only been promoting the Xbox One S and the Xbox One X in that time anyway. The original launch Xbox One lagged behind the launch PlayStation 4 on several fronts, resulting in several notable games to output at lesser resolutions (namely games using the Frostbyte engine).

Fortunately, Microsoft has gradually addressed that weakness with both the Xbox One S and Xbox One X, with the former introducing HDR and 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray and Video Streaming while the latter is set to be the most powerful console in the world.

The Xbox One X launches on November 7th, 2017.
