Microsoft is not listening to your Xbox One Skype calls

Despite what you may think, Microsoft has better things to do than eavesdrop on your Skype conversations through Xbox One.

"To be clear, the Xbox Live Policy & Enforcement team does not monitor direct peer-to-peer communications like Skype chats and calls," a Microsoft representative told IGN in response to the common belief that Xbox LIVE users are being banned for swearing during Skype calls. Over on Reddit and on the official Xbox forums, a number of users have reported receiving — shortly after being in a private Skype call and cursing — a notice to "Choose something else to play" because of past behavior.

Apparently, users banned for violating Xbox LIVE's code of conduct in Xbox One's Upload Studio are also unable to access Skype.

"Also, we take Code of Conduct moderation via Upload Studio very seriously. We want a clean, safe and fun environment for all users," the Microsoft rep explained. "Excessive profanity as well as other Code of Conduct violations will be enforced upon and result in suspension of some or all privileges on Xbox Live.

"We remain committed to preserving and promoting a safe, secure and enjoyable experience for all of our Xbox Live members."

By having your Gold account suspended for innappropriate language via Upload Studio, it's likely you'll lose other Gold-required features, like Skype and online multiplayer. Lesson to learn from this? Don't use potty language.
