Looks like Microsoft took that whole "Save the cheerleader" tagline seriously. It's being reported by TVLine that Microsoft is in talks to revive the former NBC TV series Heroes under the Los Angeles-based Xbox Entertainment Studios.
Xbox Entertainment Studios is a new division that was formed to create original programming and interactive content as the Xbox brand moves more towards all-around entertainment. Former CBS President Nancy Tellem was hired to head the division, which she spoke about at in great detail at D: Dive Into Media in February.
Heroes ended a four-season run on NBC in February 2010. The show, which follows a group of people who discover their super human powers, started off with a bang, and dropped in U.S. viewership each year. Not a lot is known at this point, but Microsoft would bring in new characters and stories, as well as mixing in cameos from the original series' cast.
In February, I wrote about how wary I am about this new entertainment initiative that Microsoft is so obsessed with. It will no doubt have an impact on the next Xbox's focus on gaming, which I wrote about HERE. That said, I used to love Heroes. It's yet to be known what kind of production quality and budget will go into the original programming that Microsoft has planned. It's great that Heroes could get a second chance — and if it succeeds, perhaps change my mind on the Xbox's entertainment goals — but I'd feel a lot better if Netflix was doing it. They already have original programming with Hemlock Grove, House of Cards, and revived Arrested Development.
But while Microsoft is at it, how about discussing some of these other shows I liked: Firefly and Flash Forward.
