Microsoft neither confirms nor denies ‘leaked’ Xbox 720 document

Microsoft has responded to the alleged document outlining the company's strategy for the Xbox 720, or whatever the next system will be called.

The 56-page document, dated August 2010, not only referenced many of the features that will soon be implemented on the Xbox 360 like the Xbox SmartGlass and multiple entertainment apps, but also showed eventual support for Blu-ray, 3D glasses, and a focus on cloud-based gaming.

While some sites claimed the document was fake in that it didn't fit with Microsoft's traditional internal communications style and offered preposterous ideas, others reasoned that it could be legit. After all, hands-free gaming at one point sounded ridiculous and now we have the Kinect.

We still don't know if the document was legit, but thanks to Eurogamer we have a response from Microsoft. Unfortunately it's your typical PR response, but it doesn't actually confirm or deny the rumors. Here's the statement:

We understand there is great interest and anticipation for what comes next for Xbox and we are lucky to have customers who are so passionate about the platform.

Today, there has never been a better time to own an Xbox 360 console. We have found new ways to extend the console lifecycle by introducing controller-free experiences with Kinect and we've re-invented the console with a new dashboard and new entertainment content partnerships.

We are continually thinking about the future of the platform and when we have something to share, we will.

Does the future hold an Xbox 720 console with the Kinect 2? They didn't say no!
