I was enthralled with VR, and I'm still quite excited to actually see the final versions of products like Oculus and Morpheus. Microsoft, however, is working on something a little more unique; Augmented Reality versus Virtual Reality.
The Hololens is a pair of glasses that project objects into the real world. So unlike Virtual Reality which places you inside of a simulated environment, Augmented Reality uses the same environment you're in, but instead projects things like movies, video calls, and even animated pets directly into your living room.
At Build 2015, Microsoft showed off a slew of uses for the Hololens, from educational purposes of looking at the human body, to more practical solutions like allowing you to Skype anywhere around your house, or even set up a calendar on your wall, so it's always there reminding you of your responsibilities.
There was even a demo of a physical robot on wheels that projected an augmented robot above it, which was able to change its colors and even follow a path that you give it.
This short glimpse got me really excited for the future of Hololens. You can check out the video of the demo below.
