Microsoft to expand its $99 Xbox 360 program

Microsoft is opening up its $99 Xbox 360 program to Best Buy and GameStop.

The new subscription plan allows customers to purchase a 4GB console with Kinect for only $99 — as long as they sign a two-year Xbox Live Gold contract that costs $14.99 a month. Canceling the contract before its fulfillment will involve an early termination fee and continuous monthly payments of $12 — not too much lower than what you'd be paying if you maintained the contract.

Microsoft's Larry Hyrb (Major Nelson) confirmed that the company is offering the plan to retailers, aside from its own stores. The pilot program will be available at all Best Buy and GameStop locations later this month.
