Might No. 9’s gameplay reveal will have you thinking Mega Man

Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune today revealed the first non-prototype footage of the currently-in-progress Mighty No. 9, seen below.

A spiritual successor to Mega Man, the game takes massive liberties with the term spiritual. From character design to 2D run-and-gun gameplay, Mighty No. 9 is as Mega Man-y as Inafune can get without doing into Capcom’s red tape. However, the game does expand upon its source material in some ways: It uses 3D models rather than strictly two-dimensional ones and protagonist Beck has a dash ability in addition to the iconic gun and jump, adding verticality to movement and combo potential to combat.

After one fireball of a Kickstarter run, Mighty No. 9 will release spring 2015 for PS3, PS4, Vita, Xbox 360, Xbox One, 3DS, Wii U, PC, Mac and Linux.
