Mighty No. 9 producer talks shop on final stage tweaks and DLC

Mighty No. 9 is one of those games that captures all the nostalgia and energy of old school 80’s side scrollers that we all grew up on. With sleeker graphics than its predecessors, it still captures all the charm of 8 and 16 bit classics, and no wonder, it’s the pet project of Mega Man illustrator and co-designer Keiji Inafune. The fabled creator is also one of the minds behind games like Dead Rising and Onimusha so it was no surprise that when he took to Kickstarter to fund MN9 it turned into a quick success and eventually attracted publisher, Deep Silver.

Releasing in mid September, the game is making its final rounds at the conventions this season and one of the game’s producers, Kevin Yu, sat down with Siliconera to give insight into the tweaks and co-op modes saying “Some enemies seemed to deal out too much damage, and others still seemed to have too much health. We also changed Beck’s color from light blue-gray to whitish-silver, since so many backers said that Beck blended in with the background too much.”

On the subject of DLC, Yu stated that yes it is coming but it will also introduce a new playable character, Ray, “The players can play her stage, and after defeating her, they can play through the entire single player story mode as Ray. Her gameplay is totally different from what Beck and Call’s gameplay is, and players can expect an interesting twist with her.” However, this DLC will be free to backers who supported the initial Kickstarter campaign.

Mighty No. 9 releases in North America on September 15, 2015.
