Mighty No. 9 stretch goals could include 3DS and Vita versions

Keiji Inafune's Mega Man spiritual successor, Mighty No. 9, has raised over $1.5 million on Kickstarter after only a few days into the campaign. It's already cleared a number of stretch goals, but the team at Comcept posted in an update about possible future platforms.

Backers have secured Mac and Linux versions (as well as other bonuses) by overreaching the target. The game was originally confirmed only for PC, but Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii U versions will happen at $2.2 million.

Next-gen (Xbox One and PlayStation 4) is a ways off, as Comcept explained it wanted to stick with what it had experience delivering.

The update reads, "We know being able to offer next-gen versions would dramatically increase our funding, but we felt the worst thing we could possibly do was dangle the prospect of next-gen Mighty No. 9 in front of our fans and capitalize on their excitement … only to disappoint them in 2015 when the game is delayed or didn't live up to the higher aesthetic expectations that come with games for those systems due to problems and costs we weren't able to anticipate."

Comcept encouraged fans to keep requesting those versions so they can gauge demand — as with portable versions, which are more of a realistic goal.

"Potential 3DS and/or Vita versions of the game are something we've been discussing since the earliest stages of this project, as handhelds are something our developers have plenty of experience with," the update reads.

If the team can set an appropriate stretch goal and raise enough funds, it could happen.
