Amazon Fire TV boasts the ability to not only stream movies and television, but also play games — like legit games too. During today's reveal, Amazon demonstrated the system's ability to play games, including a "Fire TV-specific version of Minecraft."
At this point, it's not clear how the Fire TV version of Minecraft stacks up against the mobile, PC, and console versions, but the fact that it's up and running on the system is a promising start.
Also previewed during today's presentation was a Monsters Inc.-themed endless runner and Gameloft's Asphalt 8. Even Amazon is making games for the device, revealing Sev Zero, a third-person shooter with graphics "somewhere between mobile phone and portable game console." In total, it's believed Amazon has more than a dozen games in development for Fire TV. And while Telltale's The Walking Dead series wasn't actually shown at the event, it is listed as coming to the device.
In terms of pricing, the average game will cost just under $2, at $1.85. The real cost to get into gaming on this device will stem from the controller which was also revealed today for $40. It does, however, come with some Amazon Coins to spend in the store.
