I feel like every week Minecraft reaches a new milestone. Over the weekend, creator Markus 'Notch' Persson proudly announced that Minecraft now has 20 million registered users. Of that impressive number, 23.23%, or 4,666,633 users have also bought the game. That number, which can be tracked here, continues to grow every minute.
As Notch pointed out, "We find that 76.77% of the internet will register for things they don't want."
All kidding aside, Minecraft has been quite an intriguing story and game to follow. What started off as a indie-adventure game from the lone mind of Notch has now grown into a worldwide phenomenon played and enjoyed by millions of players. Minecraft officially dropped its "beta" tag in November of 2011 which also coincided with Notch, the game's original designer, dropping his role as lead developer.
Minecraft still gets support and updates weekly, however, with the game now being led by Jens Bergensten.
