It’s no grand secret that Nintendo’s newest system has suffered a slow release schedule and yielded crawling sales as a result. However, there’s good reason to believe 2015 will be a year of redemption for Wii U. Minecraft creator Markus ‘Notch’ Persson took to Twitter today to reveal that he doesn’t share that optimism.
Persson’s first tweet jokingly dismisses the system:
Something is flashing in my room, desperately begging me to charge it. Turns out it was my Wii U pad, so I put a pillow on top of it.

In response to disgruntled replies from apparently pro-Nintendo followers, he followed up with a jab at the system’s limited library:
Don't worry Nintendo fans, I love both games for the Wii U, and I'm really looking forward to the third one in 2015!

Persson’s criticisms are justified, if exaggerative and a bit mean-spirited. For all its stellar first-party titles and hidden gems, Wii U is an absolute flop considering its age, and has already been eclipsed in sales by both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Fortunately, Nintendo has already revealed several compelling first-party titles such as Yoshi’s Wooly World and Splatoon, and is rumored to be working toward monthly Wii U releases in 2015.
