Oculus and Mojang announced today that Minecraft is now available for Oculus Gear VR-compatible smartphones. You can get the game for $6.99 on The Oculus Store. The Galaxy S7, S7 edge, Note5, S6 and S6 edge are the phones that work with the Oculus headset. All you have to do is stick your Samsung phone into the Gear VR headset and you can get to crafting in one of the most engaging VR experience to date.
The VR Edition for the Oculus Rift is still in the works, but no release date has been given for it yet.
Oculus' John Carmack had this to say:
"Minecraft is a game that you can both figuratively and literally lose yourself in. In fact, my strongest memories of being inside VR are from the time I’ve spent exploring Minecraft on Gear VR. Experiencing it in virtual reality changes it from an abstract activity to a visceral one – it goes from a sense of playing the game to one of being inside your world, and spinning around to find a creeper sneaking up on you leaves a powerful impression. Infinite worlds have been explored, shaped, and shared by millions of people, and now in VR; that sounds a bit like the fabled Metaverse."
Mojang has no shortage of projects in the pipeline apparently as they released one of their Global Gam Jam projects, Crown and Council for free on Steam.
