Mojang's Owen Hill announced today that the server system Minecraft Realms will be making it's way to the Pocket and Windows 10 editions of Minecraft, something that fans have been waiting for for a while.
"Though we don’t share your love of toilets and guns, we do agree that Minecraft Realms is a great thing that should be spread across the world, and to all editions of Minecraft, " said Hill. "For that reason, I’m happy to announce that we’re working on Realms for Minecraft: Pocket Edition and the Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta."
Soon the Windows 10 and Pocket editions will be one step closer to being equal to the PC edition.
Minecraft Realms is a service which makes playing online with friends much easier than before. Users don't need to know how to manage a server to play online, they just use the Realms service. The Minecraft worlds in Realms are always online and can "only be accessed by an approved group of people," so no strangers can hijack your Realms world.
The service also supports cross platform play "between the iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and Windows 10 editions of Minecraft… using Xbox Live logins to make that possible." Just like in the main PC version Realms will cost money to use. Mojang hasn't shared their pricing plan yet, but users will not need an Xbox Live Gold membership to be able to play on Realms – it will be an additional fee.
Minecraft Realms for Windows 10 and Pocket won't be out officially for a while, but a free alpha for Android devices is available. Just download the Pocket edition and opt in here.
Though the Windows 10 and Pocket edition has a long way to go to be on the same level as the main PC version the addition of Realms is a step forward.
