Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has surpassed the 12 million units sold mark, making it one of the most successful Xbox 360 games ever.
"I remember when we started talking about sales numbers that we would be super happy to sell 1 million copies," Mojang's Daniel Kaplan recounted on Xbox Wire. "That would have put us on par with BF1943 and Castle Crashers, which both are awesome games, so that was something to aim for. We never even dreamed of selling 12 million!"
"The continued support and the fact that people are still able to surprise us with innovative creations. Considering you can’t "cheat" by building stuff with external tools, the community have created incredible things," he added.
Asked about one of the most requested features for Minecraft: Xbox 360, Kaplan explained bigger worlds might not be possible on Xbox 360 since it would require the guarantee of a hard drive on each system. "Since not all 360's ship with hard drives that makes things tricky," Kaplan explained. "Luckily, on Xbox One that's not an issue."
Minecraft was announced for Xbox One back at E3 2013, but still doesn't have a firm release date. When asked about it, Kaplan reaffirmed "It is coming, eventually!:"
In the meantime, Xbox 360 owners can enjoy Minecraft and the new Candy Texture Pack, coming April 18.
