Earlier this week Mojang confirmed that the Wii U would officially be getting Minecraft and it wouldn't be some point and click adventure game — it's the proper Minecraft game. That's right Nintendo and Microsoft came to an agreement and got Minecraft on the Wii U before a proper Animal Crossing game, but I digress…
As a part of the announcement, Mojang revealed that the Wii U Gamepad could be used for off-TV play, to allow users to take their Minecraft experience off the big screen and let other household members take control of it.
There was no mention of whether the Gamepad would be used for inventory support, but that's because it's not happening right now. In response to a fan inquiring about the Gamepad and inventory management, Mojang's director of creative communications revealed that while it would be an interesting addition, it's not in current plans. "Not at the moment, sorry," wrote Hill. "It's [Wii U Gamepad] just used as an alternate screen if someone is using the TV. Would be cool though. :)"
