Minecraft Windows 10 Edition adds cross-platform play

While we have been hearing quite a bit about Telltale Games' spinoff Minecraft: Story Mode game, we haven't heard much about the game that started it all (besides the fact that Minecraft just got Star Wars skins!). As it turns out, the silence was likely due to Mojang being hard at work making Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition compatible with a bunch of platforms.

Both Minecraft: Windows 10 and Pocket Editions are being updated to allow players on PC, iOS, Windows Phone, and Android to all play on the same server together. The Pocket Edition will be further updated to include enhanced weather effects, new items to create and will finally introduce sprinting to the game.

The cross-platform play will not work across the world wide web, players on other continents will not be meeting up together – instead it will work through a local network. Up to five individuals playing on the same network (like your home wifi) will be able to play together, regardless of the device they are playing. The Windows 10 and Pocket Editions are still a bit behind when it comes to ingame items or features, compared to other versions of the game – but they will catch up one day.
