According to Gamasutra, the popular PC indie game Minecraft is getting a second home on the mobile gaming platform. Sony Ericsson’s Xperia PLAY is first on the list to have Minecraft grace its gaming library. Developer Majong, the makers of Minecraft, will also develop the game for other android phones as well as for the iPhone.
The Xperia Play is the first smartphone with a dedicated gaming controller. It features a 4″ inch, 16 million color touchscreen, 1GHz CPU (Qualcomm MSM 8655) and Adreno 205 graphics processor and slides open to reveal a D-pad, dual-touch joysticks, and the classic Sony button interface. It runs Android™ OS 2.3 Gingerbread.
With a successful port to mobile gaming, Minecraft could be one of the biggest games of all time. It already has a supportive and active community, and the leap to cell phones will only increase its fanbase.
