Ubisoft gave away Watch Dogs 2 as a free game to viewers of their Ubisoft Forward digital showcase. Well, at least they planned to. The massive onslaught of users who wanted to claim their copy led to Ubisoft’s servers quickly led to the servers become overloaded.
In the end, almost no one managed to claim the free game during the stream. Not only that but what was supposed to be a nice bonus to tune in to the show ended up being a huge distraction. The live chat during the show was almost entirely filled with disgruntled users who were venting about Ubisoft servers not allowing them to log in.
In hindsight, it was probably not the right choice to contain the free game giveaway deal into such a short time. But hey, Ubisoft has learned from it hopefully. At least, they are making good of their original promise by allowing everybody to grab a free copy of Watch Dogs 2. And it doesn’t matter whether you watched the digital showcase or not.
The deal only entails the Uplay version of the game for PC. Sorry console folks. Head on over to this website where you have to log in with your Uplay account to claim your very own copy of Watch Dogs 2. Interested readers better hurry up on this offer since it only runs until tomorrow 12 AM PDT / 3 AM EDT.
It ought to be a nice warm-up for its sequel Watch Dogs: Legion that is coming out this October. And while the shift if game design between both entries is rather massive, Watch Dogs 2 still offers many of the same mechanics such as the ability to hack your environment and NPCs.
